Bunyavirus 2026 Conference

8 - 10 July, 2026

Bizkaia Aretoa, Bilbao, Spain

We are excited to announce that the Bunyavirus 2026 meeting will take place July 8-10th, 2026 at the Bizkaia Aretoa in Bilbao, Spain.

The Bunyaviricetes class comprises over 500 arthropod- and rodent-borne viruses that infect plants, insects, animals and humans. Many bunyaviruses cause serious or fatal human and animal disease, famous examples are Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus, Rift Valley fever virus and Lassa virus. While this group of viruses has been considered to predominantly affect low- and middle-income tropical countries, climate change is expanding the habitat of the associated vectors, and consequently many bunyaviruses pose an emerging threat in more temperate regions. The relevance of these viruses for global public health and their potential to cause future epidemics is emphasized by the WHO in their R&D Blueprint list. Despite the evident threat, no approved vaccines or therapies are available to treat or prevent human bunyaviral disease.

This conference aims to provide a space for knowledge exchange and networking opportunities for bunyavirologists to strengthen this community and the productive networks to drive this field forward.

Following feedback from 2024, the meeting has been extended by an additional day to allow greater opportunities for interaction and collaboration building.

Join us on the sunny side for a wonderful and exciting meeting!

Registration will open in 2026.
